It’s been a while since we’ve talked about the first game, but yes, we’re all best friends now. Yes, we’re all best friends now. No, really, we are.
Well, it looks like we might have become the best of friends after all. Just a few days after we’ve been talking about the first game we have been talking about the second game, and now we’re talking about the third one. As a reminder, this is all happening in the very first game, Deathloop. This is the game where we meet all these characters and spend the whole time figuring out how each of them gets together.
Deathloop is still in beta, but we can say that it’s still not a game for the faint-hearted or those who don’t like puzzle-based games. It’s actually quite complex, both in terms of gameplay and design. There are dozens of collectible items scattered around the island that we can use to power up our powers, and the game’s atmosphere is dark and creepy.
The game’s main flaw, however, is that it could have been more imaginative. We can’t imagine why the designers decided to make such a game with a story centering around a time loop with no real payoff and the worst part is that there isn’t a single game that would fall into the category of a ‘best friend’ game.
It’s a pity because I actually enjoyed playing this game. It’s a great game that deserves to be more recognized, but it could have been better. If you want to spend some time with the best friend genre you should check out the best friends RPG, but that comes with the territory.
The thing with best friend games is that you end up with a game that feels too familiar. You end up playing the same games every time and you lose the personal touch. In the best friend genre you feel like you are playing through the same story again and again. It’s fun, but it feels like nothing more than a tired and stale formula.
