We can train ourselves to be more compassionate when we’re not noticing the negative things that happen, or when we are so focused on the positive, we lose sight of the fact that they could be worse.

While it’s true that self-awareness, compassion and empathy are all important to make better decisions, this is also true that people with self-awareness are more likely to make good decisions. If we were going to write a book about the art of self-awareness, we know this is where our focus should be. And if we can get people to focus on the positive outcomes of things, we can help them make better decisions; so that’s where our focus should be.

The fact is that most people have self-awareness, and what makes them more likely to make better decisions is that they have the ability to read the page.
